Our History

About ten years ago, I saw an episode of How it's Made that changed my life.  It was focused on hand-made wood pens.  About a week later, I was visiting a friend, when I noticed a catalog on his coffee table that was dedicated to pen making.  I borrowed a lathe, and that was the birth of Shawsheen Woodworks.

This is a passion as well as a career for me. It is my "zen" time, a way for me to become at ease with the world.  I hope to produce pieces that continue to bring that sense of peace to those who live with them.

This is Ryan. He likes to build stuff.

While simultaneously being dad to a couple of rambunctious boys, and living life to the fullest, Ryan spends his spare time in his shop in Lawrence at Island Street Studios, and is a founding member and Chief Maker at The MILL - The Maker Innovation Lab, Lawrence

“When I’m working on a problem, I never think about beauty. I think only how to solve the problem. But when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.”
